Book Excerpt

From More Than A Feeling by Sara Richardson:

“Sawyer…” There was so much she couldn’t tell him. So many reasons she should ask him to leave, to leave her alone. But the ache tightening inside of her would never go away if she didn’t touch him, if she didn’t feel the generous hunger of his lips against hers, the thrilling sensation of his hands reading every curve of her body. So instead of saying anything, instead of casting him out of her life, she scooted to her knees so she could reach his lips, first touching them lightly with her fingers. “You’re a good man, Sawyer Hawkins,” she whispered. And though she knew he couldn’t have her forever, she could give herself to him now. He could have her for this one moment.

His gaze fused with hers, the mesmerizing blue of his eyes smoldering like the center of a flame. His large hands settled on her hips and tugged them until she straddled him.

The swing pitched forward and she wrapped her arms around his neck to keep from losing her balance.

“This isn’t why I came here,” he informed her hoarsely.

“That’s disappointing,” she breathed against his neck. The stubble made her lips tingle.

Sawyer sighed in a helplessly delicious way and took her chin in his hand, bringing her lips to meet his, brushing them lightly in teasing preview.

Oh, lordy, lordy, lordy…the man could kiss.

He pulled back to look at her, but what good was that? She wanted to feel him against her, solid and safe and warm. So she wrapped her legs all the way around his waist cinching them tighter until the hard bulge of his desire for her pulsed between her legs. It was blinding the way he made her lungs pound, the way he sent her dizzy heart twirling in circles. His touch brought her somewhere else, made her feel like someone else. Someone whole and unbreakable. The person she’d always wanted to be.

My Thoughts

More Than A Feeling is an emotional read, particularly at the beginning, with my heart absolutely breaking for Ruby and what she’s had to go through in her life. It’s no wonder she’s lost her belief in magic (and love), with what she’s experienced. But even as afraid and hurt as she is by her past, she still has the ability to hope, she still has the ability to pick herself up and try to build herself a better life. I admire her strength in that, because it isn’t an easy thing to do and yet she does it. Because she’s a survivor, even if she doesn’t always think of or present herself that way.

I really loved this book. It’s well-written and heartfelt, and it was so easy to connect with and root for Ruby and Sawyer. The deep characterization and vivid setting details not only pulled me into the story, but it also made me feel for the characters and their situations, both past and present. This was a story that draws readers in and doesn’t let them go.

Ruby is a strong female character, with a lot of pain and hope inside of her, and Sawyer is an amazingly good man for her because of that. Loyal, kind, and endearing, patient, understanding, and observant, Sawyer is the kind of man who can read her and then act accordingly. He was exactly the guy Ruby needed at the exact moment she needed him, and vice versa.

Sawyer and Ruby have both been hurt and disappointed by their pasts, and yet they build something truly remarkable with each other in this book. Something real, natural, and passionate, something emotionally gripping and honest, too.

I truly enjoyed every word of this book. It had everything I love to read in a romance: deep emotion, a bit of danger and suspense, a good mix of fun, and powerful lessons about life and love and hope, and a strong showing of renewal of self. It made my psychology loving heart jump for joy. Excellent, excellent romance read.
