Temptations of a Wallflower

by Eva Leigh

Part of The Wicked Quills of London Series

$1.99 for Kindle

Temptations of a Wallflower: The Wicked Quills of London by [Leigh, Eva]

Eva Leigh’s deliciously sexy Wicked Quills of London series continues as a Lady’s secret career writing erotic fiction is jeopardized by real-life romance . . .

In society circles she’s known as the Watching Wallflower—shy, quiet, and certainly never scandalous. Yet beneath Lady Sarah Frampton’s demure façade hides the mind of The Lady of Dubious Quality, author of the most titillating erotic fiction the ton has ever seen. Sarah knows discovery would lead to her ruin, but marriage—to a vicar, no less—could help protect her from slander. An especially tempting option when the clergyman in question is the handsome, intriguing Jeremy Cleland.

Tasked with unmasking London’s most scandalous author by his powerful family, Jeremy has no idea that his beautiful, innocent bride is the very woman he seeks to destroy. His mission must remain a secret, even from the new wife who stirs his deepest longings. Yet when the truth comes to light, Sarah and Jeremy’s newfound love will be tested. Will Sarah’s secret identity tear them apart or will the temptations of his wallflower wife prove too wicked to resist?

One Night with the Billionaire (Men of the Zodiac) by [Ballance, Sarah]

Sign: Sagittarius

He’s the perfect kind of trouble…

Zoe Davenport is on her way to a perfect, idyllic, private resort, where there’s no ex-fiancé and definitely no public scandal involving said ex-fiancé. But one look at the exceptionally sexy resort owner, and Zoe wonders if she’s escaped scandal just long enough to land herself in even hotter water…

Except that Ryder Nash isn’t exactly a stranger. He and Zoe used to live next door to each other. She was the sweet little temptation who couldn’t stand him-the bad boy with a loud car and a new girl every weekend. What Zoe doesn’t know is that all those years ago, her father paid Ryder off…to keep him away from her.

And if Ryder gives into the fiery attraction that rages between them-even for a moment-he’ll lose everything all over again…

Book Summary

The Raymond Rodriguez from a few years ago wouldn’t recognize the guy he is today. He’s left his slacker ways far behind him and is now juggling two jobs and school. But the balancing act doesn’t allow much time for the man he loves.

David is doing his best to be supportive, but problems at work and his own insecurity leave him frustrated—in more ways than the obvious—whenever he goes to bed before Raymond gets home. The heat and affection between them is still there, but they barely have the time or energy to enjoy it. And it doesn’t help that Raymond is still hiding David from his colleagues.

The stress mounts so high that a vacation in paradise is filled with turmoil instead of harmony, and culminates on their return to the five boroughs with broken promises and heartache. They have to figure out how to stop allowing their differences to overshadow their love. It’s the only way they’ll make it to forever.

About Santino Hassell

Santino Hassell was raised by a conservative family, but he was anything but traditional. He grew up to be a smart-mouthed, school cutting grunge kid, then a transient twenty-something, and eventually transformed into an unlikely romance author.

Santino writes queer romance that is heavily influenced by the gritty, urban landscape of New York City, his belief that human relationships are complex and flawed, and his own life experiences.

American Assassin by Vince Flynn (Book Review + Movie News)

Hey guys.

I just wanted to take a few moments to talk about American Assassin. You can read my review of the book below, but I wanted to give you a little background on what led me to want to read this book. Because it might seem like it’s out of my normal reading range to you, but in truth, it’s really not.

You see, I have always loved military, political, and spy thrillers. I first found them when I was getting my bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and continued reading them all through college. Somewhere along the way though, I wound up reading a host of other genres, so much so that this particular genre fell a bit by the wayside for me. Until a few weeks ago, that is. When I heard they were making American Assassin into a movie and that it would star Dylan O’Brien (Deepwater Horizon, The Maze Runner, Stiles on Teen Wolf) as Mitch Rapp and Michael Keaton as  Stan Hurley, the man who trains Rapp. From there, a quick search lead me to discover that, though this book was written well after the series started, it is actually the first book in the series, the book that gives the background on Mitch Rapp and his training as an assassin. The summary of the book caught my eye pretty quick and before I knew it, I’d bought the trade paperback on Amazon. And I am very glad I did, too. Because I loved the book and I absolutely cannot wait to see the movie, which actually just started filming (or maybe just pre-production?) this month.

I will no doubt be posting more about this series as I work my way through the rest of the books (and possibly the movie as more comes out about it’s filming). If you’ve read this series, or you decide to read it now, please come back and comment. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it, and what you think about the casting choices. I could totally see Dylan O’Brien as Mitch Rapp after reading this book. I honestly can’t wait to see the intensity he’ll no doubt bring to the role.

Here’s some first look photos of Dylan as Mitch Rapp for those interested in reading more about the movie. You can find more details about the book (along with my review) and the rest of the series below-including how to pre-order the newest release in the series, book fifteen, Order To Kill.

Book Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Vince Flynn returns with yet another explosive thriller, introducing the young Mitch Rapp, as he takes on his first assignment.

Before he was considered a CIA superagent, before he was thought of as a terrorist’s worst nightmare, and before he was both loathed and admired by the politicians on Capitol Hill, Mitch Rapp was a gifted college athlete without a care in the world . . . and then tragedy struck.

Two decades of cutthroat, partisan politics has left the CIA and the country in an increasingly vulnerable position. Cold War veteran and CIA Operations Director Thomas Stansfield knows he must prepare his people for the next war. The rise of Islamic terrorism is coming, and it needs to be met abroad before it reaches America’s shores. Stansfield directs his protégée, Irene Kennedy, and his old Cold War colleague, Stan Hurley, to form a new group of clandestine operatives who will work outside the normal chain of command—men who do not exist.

What type of man is willing to kill for his country without putting on a uniform? Kennedy finds him in the wake of the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack. Two-hundred and seventy souls perished that cold December night, and thousands of family and friends were left searching for comfort. Mitch Rapp was one of them, but he was not interested in comfort. He wanted retribution.

Six months of intense training has prepared him to bring the war to the enemy’s doorstep, and he does so with brutal efficiency. Rapp starts in Istanbul, where he assassinates the Turkish arms dealer who sold the explosives used in the Pan Am attack. Rapp then moves onto Hamburg with his team and across Europe, leaving a trail of bodies. All roads lead to Beirut, though, and what Rapp doesn’t know is that the enemy is aware of his existence and has prepared a trap. The hunter is about to become the hunted, and Rapp will need every ounce of skill and cunning if he is to survive the war-ravaged city and its various terrorist factions.

As action-packed, fast-paced, and brutally realistic as it gets, Flynn’s latest page-turner shows readers how it all began. Behind the steely gaze of the nation’s ultimate hero is a young man primed to become an American Assassin.

Pre-Release Blast: Love Between the Covers Documentary Film (Video + Giveaway)

Love Between the Covers

A Documentary Film
Written, Produced & Directed by: Laurie Kahn
Releasing July 12th, 2016
Distributed by: The Orchard

Love stories are universal. Love stories are powerful.  And so are the women who write them.
Love Between the Covers is the fascinating story of the vast, funny, and savvy female community that has built a powerhouse industry sharing love stories.  Romance fiction is sold in 34 languages on six continents, and the genre grosses more than a billion dollars a year — outselling mystery, sci-fi, and fantasy combined.  Yet the millions of voracious women (and sometimes men) who read, write, and love romance novels have remained oddly invisible. Until now.
For three years, we follow the lives of five very diverse published romance authors and one unpublished newbie as they build their businesses, find and lose loved ones, cope with a tsunami of change in publishing, and earn a living doing what they love—while empowering others to do the same. Romance authors have built a fandom unlike all others, a global sisterhood where authors know their readers personally and help them become writers themselves. During the three years we’ve been shooting Love Between the Covers, we have witnessed the biggest power shift that has taken place in the publishing industry over the last 200 years. And it’s the romance authors who are on the front lines, pioneering new ways to survive and build communities in this rapidly changing environment.

Upcoming Books Wish List

Hi there, book readers! Happy Sunday to you.

Like most avid book readers over the weekend, I found myself in envy of all the lucky devils who were able to attend Bookexpo America and Book Con over the weekend. I saw so many great book posts on Twitter and YouTube that I made myself a huge list of upcoming books. And since I did make a book list, I thought it might be fun to share details about a few of the books I’m most excited for and anticipating. These books are in no particular order, but they all caught my eye and my interest.

The Blind Astronomer’s Daughter by John Pipkin

Historical Fiction | 464 pages | Bloomsbury USA

Release Date: October 11th, 2016

From Goodreads:

A transporting new historical novel from the acclaimed author of Woodsburner.

28260435.jpgIn late-eighteenth-century Ireland, accidental stargazer Caroline Ainsworth learns that her life is not what it seems when her father, Arthur, throws himself from his rooftop observatory. He has chosen death over a darkened life, gone blind from staring at the sun in his obsessive hunt for an unknown planet near Mercury. Caroline had often assisted her father with his observations; when astronomer William Herschel discovered Uranus in 1781, she watched helplessly as unremitting jealousy drove Arthur to madness.

Grief-stricken, Caroline at first abandons the vain search, leaves Ireland for London, and tries to forget her love for Finnegan O’Siodha, the tinkering blacksmith who was helping her father build a massive telescope larger than Herschel’s own. But she later discovers that her father has left her more than the wreck of an unfinished telescope: his cryptic atlas holds the secret to finding a new world at the edge of the sky. As Caroline reluctantly resumes the search and confronts her longing for Finnegan, Ireland is swept into rebellion, and the lovers are plunged into its violence.

This is a novel of the obsessions of the age—scientific inquiry, geographic discovery, political reformation—but above all astronomy, the mapping of the solar system, and beyond. It is a novel of the quest for knowledge and also—just as importantly—for human connection. The Blind Astronomer’s Daughter is rich, far-reaching, and unforgettable.

By Gaslight by Steven Price

Historical Thriller | 752 Pages | Farrar, Straus, and Giroux

Release Date: October 4th, 2016

From Goodreads:

A literary tour de force of a detective’s ceaseless hunt for an elusive criminal

28007939.jpgLondon, 1885. Three years before the Whitechapel killings, London is a city of fog and darkness. A severed head is dredged from the Thames; ten miles away, a woman’s body is discovered on Edgeware Road. The famed American detective William Pinkerton is summoned by Scotland Yard to investigate. The dead woman fits the description of a grifter Pinkerton had been pursuing for a long time–someone he believed would lead him to a man he has been hunting since his father’s death.

Edward Shade is an industrialist without a past, a fabled con, a thief of other men’s futures–he seems a ghost, a man of smoke. The obsessive hunt for him that began in the last days of the Civil War becomes Pinkerton’s inheritance. What follows is an epic journey of secrets, deceit, and betrayals. Above all, it is the story of the most unlikely of bonds: between Pinkerton, the greatest detective of his age, and Shade, the one criminal he cannot outwit.

Steven Price’s By Gaslight is a riveting, atmospheric portrait of a man on the brink. Moving from the diamond mines of South Africa to the fog-enshrouded streets of Victorian London, the novel is a journey into a cityscape of grief, trust, and its breaking, where what we share can bind us even against our better selves.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

YA Historical | YA Horror | 320 Pages | James Patterson Presents

Release Date: September 20th 2016

Presented by James Patterson’s new children’s imprint, this deliciously creepy horror novel has a storyline inspired by the Ripper murders and an unexpected, blood-chilling conclusion…

28962906.jpgSeventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord’s daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father’s wishes and society’s expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle’s laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

The story’s shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this dazzling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget.
